After seventy years of planning, design, verification and final decision-making, the implementation of TGP was initiated in 1993. The practice of the project development and management over the past eleven years is featured with further understanding about the nature and objective world, the application of advanced engineering technologies in a scientific and rigorous manner and the execution of construction and management through both considering practical situations and trying to open up a creative path. In 2003, the project achieved the scheduled milestone objectives of initial reservoir impoundment, ship-lock navigation and power generation of the first units. At present, with the phase III construction under way, the project has entered a stage featured simultaneous project construction and operation.
